Camping–Ouray, CO Aug 2014 Day 1 & 2

We went camping with some really good friends a couple weeks ago.  It has been ages since I’ve gone camping and I forgot how much fun it is.  It was so great to get away (sans kids!) and just enjoy the sunshine and beautiful scenery.  We stayed at the KOA campground in Ouray.  It was convenient to be close to town and the natural hot springs.  I want go back and take my kiddos with me.

All of these photos were taken with my Samsung Galazy S5.  I did bring my D90 camera, but not my battery.  I was impressed with my cell phone pics!

We enjoyed the campfire the first night.

    

On day 2 we took the Nissan Xterra off-roading on Yankee Boy trail.  We also stopped at Box Canyon Falls.  Our friend is a wee bit scared of heights.

First Day of School + New Camera!

I got a new camera!!!  I got my Nikon D90 in 2009 and I haven’t been interested in picking it up.  I was finding it slipping focus a bit, I didn’t like the limited focal points, and the limited ISO, plus the technology is older.  I had been lusting after the new full frame Nikon Df since it came out and my very generous husband surprised me for our anniversary with a new camera!  It’s very different in the layout and will take some adjusting, but I love it so far.  My lenses feel brand new on a full frame—such a difference!  Now I need to sell some of my old equipment.

This year’s first day (first grade!) pictures are taken with my new camera and my 50mm f/1.4.  I didn’t do any editing besides cropping.  I don’t remember what I used last year, but probably my 24-70mm f/2.8 and I did edit. 

I can’t believe how much they’ve grown, especially Cooper.  Check out his head height compared to my arm.  The kid is only 6 and I’m 5’11”! (First Grade on left, Kindy on right)
