My photography journey: 9 months of using a DSLR

I used to prefer my Sony Cybershot P&S because it was simpler to use.  I was intimidated by our Pentax DSLR and I always handed it off to my husband while I used the P&S.  Well, the P&S began to die and I figured after owning a DSLR for a year, I should probably learn how to use it.  So here is my path of learning to use my DSLR—it’s not the camera that takes good photos, but rather the user who knows how to use the equipment to take good photos.

(These are all straight off the camera, unless otherwise noted.)

Day 182: Why baby gates are a joke now

Baby gates no longer work to keep them out of certain spaces.  Cooper is too smart for his own good.

First jiggle the bottom a bit to get it loose.DSC_8258_edit_wm

Then lift from the bottom. DSC_8259_edit_wm

Hold it up for sister to pass through.DSC_8260_Edit_wm

And crawl on through!  Simple as that.DSC_8262_edit_wm

I’m halfway there!!  I can’t believe I’ve taken photos every day for 6 months and blogged about it!  Amazing!  Just skimming through my posts I’ve made a lot of progress both in my photographs and in my editing.  The best part is even on the days the photos aren’t perfect, I still love seeing all the memories of my children these last 6 months.  Here are some of my favorite posts (I even had to narrow it from these!  There are so many funny days.):

Day 181: Waiting for brother

Charlotte was surprisingly up earlier than her brother.  I was going into work late so I could go straight from work and meet with friends afterward.  The kids were in bed by the time I got home, so this morning photo was the only one I got.  She is looking so much like a little girl these days.

Day 180: Bucket Rides and Pouting

A cheap plastic bucket from Target intended for outdoor toys creates endless entertainment for toddlers.  So far they’ve used it as a drum, a stepping stool, a hiding place, a roll-each-other-around-until-you-fall-out-device, and for bucket rides.  So cute!
